Mentors are needed in Rutherford County to support TN Promise applicants from the Class of 2020. Mentors spend one hour a month assisting students as they transition from high school to college. Potential mentors must be 21 years of age, are subject to a background check and complete a one hour training. The Long Term Care Ombudsman program in Middle Tennessee is getting ready for volunteer certification training. The program provides advocacy for residents in long-term care facilities. Volunteer applicants must pass a background check and attend a 16-hour in-house training. The next training session will be held Nov. 6-7 in Nashville. Murfreesboro City League Youth Basketball registration will be held through Friday, Nov. 15.  Players who are between the ages of 5 and 17 by Dec. 31, 2019, are eligible. Sign-ups are Monday through Friday at: Sports*Com; Patterson Community Center; McFadden Community Center; and Barfield Main Office. Sign-ups will also be available every Saturday in October at Sports*Com. Practice will begin in December and games will start in January. The fee for each player is $75.
