The Heimermann Children’s Choir and Adult Chorale is scheduling auditions now through Christmas for the spring semester (January-May 2019). The choir and chorale recently released a Christmas CD that was recorded live at Covenant Presbyterian Church.  “One Nation Under God” Annual Community Wide Prayer Breakfast will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at The Embassy Suites Murfreesboro at 6:30 a.m. (food line opens) with the program from 7-8 a.m. The keynote speaker is Chip Dodd, who has been working in the field of recovery and redemption for more than 26 years. He is the founder of The Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) in Nashville. The Villages of Murfreesboro’s Christmas for a Cause event will feature an on-site silent auction of wreaths and Christmas trees from Dec. 1-10.  The event benefits the Rutherford County Senior Citizens Awareness Network. Discovery Center’s Holiday Open House (free day) will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at 502 SE Broad St. Pictures with Santa Claus and gingerbread house decorating are some of the activities.

Smyrna’s Eighth Annual Parade of Lights will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. The parade begins at Veterans Memorial Park and ends at City Hall, where the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and a fireworks show will take place. The parade Grand Marshal is Diana McCormick, the wife of the city’s late-Fire Chief Rick McCormick. To participate in the parade, the application must be turned in to the City of LaVergne by Nov. 29 at 5:30 p.m.

Springhouse Theatre Company’s auditions for “Over the River and Through the Woods” will be held on Monday, Dec. 10 and Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 6-9 p.m. each night. Auditions will be cold readings from the script; a comedic monologue is welcomed but not required. Headshot and resume are also welcomed but not required. Rutherford County Extension Master Gardener Program is now accepting applications. Training is Feb. 2-April 30, 2019. Local chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees association meets on the first Thursday of the month, excluding January and July. The meetings are held at The Villages of Murfreesboro 2550 Willow Oak Trail in Murfreesboro.
