The Middle Tennessee State University Board of Trustees on Tuesday afternoon approved tuition and mandatory fee increases.

The change is a 2.36 percent increase in tuition for undergraduate students and 3 percent for graduate students, according to trustee documents. The fees increased by 2.37 percent.

The trustees voted 8-0 on unanimously with no discussion.

The state allows universities to make such adjustments at a rate up to 2.5 percent, documents show.

The increases are being budgeted to meet unmet financial needs including employee salary increases, such faculty promotions and adjustments to adjunct salaries; scholarships and increased scholarship levels; new academic programs and student success initiatives; and fixed cost increases for software maintenance agreements, utilities and more, trustee documents show.
