The Mission Council of the Church of the Holy Cross in Murfreesboro recently announced the appointment of its new vicar, the Reverend James C. Teets.

Father Teets began his pastoral leadership of Holy Cross on June 12, 2017.Father Jim, as he is known to his parish, recently graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from the School of Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee and was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests on June 3 at Trinity Cathedral in Miami, Florida. He resides in Murfreesboro with his wife Sharon and their black lab, Hunter. Jim and Sharon have two grown sons, Casey and Crawford. Teets is a Florida native and grew up in the western Palm Beach County agricultural area of southern Florida. Prior to entering seminary, he spent 10 years as a teacher and head of school in the Glades, where he taught physics, chemistry, and environmental science. Most recently, he created his own business and provided concierge accounting services to businesses and individuals in Florida. This business provided an excellent avenue for the accounting and management skills that he developed at Stetson University, where he earned a B.B.A. Father Jim, a cradle Episcopalian, has been a lifelong servant of the church. Through the power of the Holy Spirit working in his life, he models his deep love for Jesus Christ in his devoted ministry to others. While at Sewanee, he earned his Clinical Pastoral Education certification by serving as a chaplain at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center. Jim had an outstanding field education experience at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Murfreesboro and served as the deacon there until his ordination to the priesthood.

Jim and Sharon feel a calling by God to spread the “good news” and model a Christ-centered life to their new church. They were drawn to the open, loving and enthusiastic community of faith at Holy Cross and look forward to helping them make new and enduring disciples for Christ through worship, education and local outreach.Church of the Holy Cross is an Episcopal mission church founded in 2000 in Murfreesboro. Holy Cross’s sanctuary and campus at 1140 Cason Lane was constructed in 2004. In 2008, as part of the missional growth process, the people of Holy Cross created a new mission statement and began a new mission of “welcoming all who seek grace and peace in conversation and communion with Jesus Christ.”

Those attending Holy Cross are just as likely to worship with lifelong Episcopalians as they are to worship with former Roman Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Church of Christ and the unchurched. Regardless of denomination, all are invited to come to Holy Cross, a place of warm welcome where they can encounter God, share in the mysteries of Christ’s presence and go into the world to do God’s healing work, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Holy Cross welcomes everyone to join them in worship and praise at its primary Holy Eucharist on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and at Service of Eucharist and Healing on Wednesdays at noon.
