|Some of Tennessee’s finest young high school clarinetists will participate in the 11th annual MTSU High School Honor Clarinet Choir on Saturday, March 23, in the university’s Wright Music Building.
"Students were selected to participate by demonstrating excellence in musical achievement and involvement in various musical activities," said Dr. Todd Waldecker, MTSU professor of clarinet and organizer of the event.
The day’s events will culminate with a free public concert at 4 p.m. featuring the High School Honors Choir, the MTSU Clarinet Choir and a special clarinet soloist, internationally renowned artist Sabine Grofmeier.
Grofmeier also will perform a solo recital and teach a clarinet master class on Sunday, March 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Room 117 of the Saunders Fine Arts Building, which is located alongside the Wright Music Building.
MTSU faculty pianist David See will accompany Grofmeier on works by Poulenc, Lutoslawski, Berg and Mendelssohn at the March 24 events, which also are free and open to the public.
Grofmeier, who was born in Marl, Germany, has worked as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Israel, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, France and Australia. Since 2007, she has been the artistic director of the International Musicfestival Capdepera in Mallorca, Spain.
