To the editor:
First I would like to thank you for your great newspaper. It is the highlight of every Sunday morning in our household. I must admit, we usually skip directly to the page that features yourself and Stephen Lewis, and then we read the rest. I have never written a letter to a newspaper before, but have been compelled to write after this most recent attack on Mr. Lewis and his column.

I do not know Mr. Lewis personally, have never even met him (though I do try to spot him occasionally at Jim and Nicks over a basket of cheese biscuits). That said, I would like to make a request to my fellow readers of the Post ... Leave Stephen Lewis alone!

I was amazed when the hot dog contest neurosurgeon was offended by Mr. Lewis' article. I wanted to write in then, but I didn't.

But now I see that he has yet again offended another Post reader. This time someone is upset about his comments made about carrying guns in local parks (by the way, I am in favor of that). Comments, mind you, about angry chipmunks and snapping turtles. Someone actually took offense at that and took the time to write about it.

The point of my letter is to let the people at The Post know that I don't believe these readers accurately represent the rest of us that enjoy the heck out of Mr. Lewis' column. Some of us enjoy the laugh out loud humor that he adds to the most often dismal state of affairs in the news. For those that don't, you really don't have to read it. It is a FREE publication to most of us. That makes it a GIFT. Now when you receive a gift, you may choose to use it or not, but it is downright rude to criticize it or try to change it to better suit your personal tastes. So move on reader, there is a little something for everyone in the Post, just turn the pages till you find something less offensive to you. But PLEASE, stop complaining about something that brings a lot of joy to many other people.

And to Mr. Lewis: THANK YOU for your sense of humor. Once we are done with the Post in my household, it goes to work with me where it is read and thoroughly enjoyed by my coworkers from Smyrna, Williamson county and Davidson county. You have a loyal following.

Mr. Pirtle, please stand up for him and don't make him change.

Instead you try to be serious and the competent people of the world come down on ya like a keyboard Fist of Fury! Perhaps you should be punished.
As follows; One week of extremely itchy underwear,one size too small.
A stearn fingerwaggin' from Mr. west.
A years subscription to a French fashion magazine(must read the articles).
That should deter your serious behavior!

I TOTALLY agree, Debbie Spolarich! He uses dry humor, often self degrading to make us laugh--for FREE... I think some people obviously have too much time on their hands if they want to complain about that. I love reading his columns--at least he can laugh at himself! Others should remember--"If you don't learn to laugh at yourself, you leave the job to others..."
