Murfreesboro City Schools opens the 2008-09 school year with the official day of registration for year-round schools from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday at the student’s zoned/designated school.

For those unable to attend on that date, registration will continue during the regular school hours thereafter.

MCS’s year-round, or alternative calendar schools, are Bradley Academy, Bellwood-Bowdoin Preschool, Cason Lane Academy, Erma Siegel Elementary, Hobgood, Scales and the Discovery School at Reeves-Rogers.

The first day for students is July 21.

Requirements:
A child entering kindergarten should be no less than age five on or before Sept. 30. A child entering first grade should be no less than six on or before Sept. 30.

After July 1, 1993, no child will be eligible to attend first grade without having attended an approved kindergarten program.

All students must provide:
- A birth certificate or officially acceptable evidence of date of birth at the time of registration.

- Evidence of a current medical examination. There shall be a complete medical examination of every student entering school for the first time.

- Evidence of state-required immunization.

- Proof of address of parent or legal guardian upon initial enrollment: however, proof of residency or guardianship may be requested at any time.

- Student’s social security number.

The name used on records of a student entering school must be that shown on the birth certificate unless evidence is presented that such name has been legally changed through a court as prescribed by law.

If the parent does not have, or cannot obtain, a birth certificate, then the name used on the records of such student will be that as shown on documents that are acceptable to the school principal as proof of date of birth.

ESL students:
Immunizations required of all students are required for ESL students. If there is a child without documentation (green card) or is homeless, they will be admitted to school in accordance with Federal law. A reasonable length of time will be given for the parents or guardian to obtain documentation.
