I like the idea of Virginia Tech facing off against Tennessee at Bristol Motor Speedway. I’ve seen the video promo for it on YouTube and it gave me chills. The build up to it will slowly increase over the next few years and when they play it will be one of the most epic venues in football history due to the attendance (160,000) and atmosphere.
I feel like the pride of Dickey got in the way for these past 17 years. The article states that Dickey would not let the Bristol Speedway make his Neyland Stadium second fiddle in the state of Tennessee. Sometimes in life if you just put aside your pride, bigger things can happen and result in happiness for everybody. Wouldn’t it have been great to see the likes of Arian Foster run the rock or Eric Berry make a bone crushing tackle for UT in Bristol? Or what about Mike Vick escaping the pocket and zooming down the sideline for Virginia Tech as if he were a racecar himself? These are the opportunities that these two schools have been missing out on for the last 17 years since this game idea was proposed. It’ll be exciting to see the current UT athletic director, Dave Hart, make this venue a reality.
