William J. Brophy, 86, a resident of Murfreesboro passed away Friday,
February 19, 2010 at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro. He
was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late James and Alice Miller Brophy.
He retired with the New York City Transit, was a member of St. Rose of
Lima Catholic Church and served his country in the United States Navy on a
LST during the invasion of Normandy. He also was a champion player with
the American Contract Bridge League while residing in Charleston, SC.

Mr. Brophy was preceded by his parents; brothers and sisters, James S. and
Francis Brophy, Doris Burke, Alice Mullen; and his first wife, Cathleen
Marie Cullinane. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Edith Brophy;
children, Timothy (Pat) Brophy of ME, Gregory (Winnie) Brophy and Paul
(Gina) Brophy of NY, Sister Dolly Brophy, RVM of CA; step children,
Marjorie O’Donnell of DE, Robert Rey of FL, Pamela Roesler of
Murfreesboro, TN, Audrey Hayes of NY; brother, Ronald Brophy of NY; nine
grandchildren; seven step grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday 10 am at The Church of
the Holy Child in Staten Island, New York. Interment will follow in
Calverton National Cemetery in New York. Casey McCallum Rice South Shore
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
