William Curtis Burns, age 85 of Murfreesboro, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was a native of Rutherford County and a son of the late Roscoe and Sammie Crockett Wray Burns. Mr. Burns was also preceded in death by four brothers Frank, Homer, George, and James Burns.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike Norris officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Charles Harrison, Ryan Aldridge, Bob Burns, Mike Burns, Garry Burns, R.W. Groom, Sam Youree, and Steven Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Franklin Road Baptist Church and family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Martha Vance Burns; daughters, Melissa Aldridge and her husband Gilbert and Gena Burns-Harrison and her husband Charles all of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren Ryan Curtis Aldridge, Susan Hinson, Lauren Harrison, and Collin Harrison; five great grandchildren, Amelia Aldridge, Zachary Swafford, William Aldridge, Ava Aldridge, and Katie Glore.
Mr. Burns was a long-time member and deacon of Franklin Road Baptist Church and was a member of Gideon’s International, and retired as chief engineer from the Glass Division of Ford Motor Co. He was an avid antique automobile enthusiast and restored many cars. He was a member of the Stones River Antique Auto Club. Mr. Burns also loved working with wood and built several fine pieces of furniture.
Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Thailand Children’s Home or Franklin Road Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Burns.
