The hour is near as the day draws closer to the Bonnaroo initial artist announcement.

For most Roonies, anticipation has set in and they are more than ready for the day in which they can all stop reading blogs, message boards and listening to nonsense from some design-savvy kid who posts a fake lineup on the Web.

This was the case last week as someone’s wish list turned into a potential lineup that included Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder and Kings of Leon among others. Most of it was probable but it was still based on speculation.

But we are now getting into the home stretch and some concrete reports seem evident.

According to Consequence of Sound, a music Web site, they have multiple sources reporting Dave Matthews Band will close the festival on Sunday night as they just announced their 2010 tour plans. The Web site is also reporting expected confirmations for Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, The Avett Brothers and Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers – yes, that wild and crazy guy Steve Martin.

With things heating up, the Bonnaroo Twitter page is still sending out clues in the form of tweets. While one of the clearest leads to Paul Simon as it read “Tom and Jerry, without Art.” Another clue “News that covers important topics” may pinpoint to indie-rock group The National.

The rumors of The Rolling Stones and The Who have been killed recently among the message boards and blog sites with new ones popping up of Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and rock icon Neil Young.

It’s still all a toss-up and a little foggy, but there are some heavy hitters to be named.

With all the talk of headliners, the undercard at Bonnaroo is what I expect to be stacked this year.

With the loss of the Rothbury festival and competition from the Coachella festival, AC Entertainment and Superfly Productions will more than likely bring out some big name mid-major and lower-tier acts to complement the big names as expected.

After all, the only thing Bonnaroo can be bigger than is itself.
