Arts Center of Cannon County

The Arts Center of Cannon County offers a weekend of music with the Annie Moses Band Friday Night and The Mink Slide Band Saturday night.

The Annie Moses Band, which performs at 7:30 Friday night, is comprised of five Juilliard-trained musicians from the same family tree with a sound all their own. Called Chamber Pop, the band plays a spicy blend of classical, jazz, and pop mixed with some old-fashioned country.

Named after the area on Murfreesboro’s Vine Street where weekly Friday night dances took place before World War II, the Mink Slide musicians play the same mix of blues, gospel, country, and ragtime that characterized rural roots music before commercialism broke it into marketable pieces.

The Mink Slide Band takes the stage at 7:30 Saturday night.

Ticket prices for either performance are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and groups of ten or more.

The Arts Center is located on 1424 John Bragg Highway, just west of the town of Woodbury, approximately 20 minutes from Murfreesboro.

Please share with faculty, staff, and students!

I wanted to pass on some information and a request. If all goes according to plan, our evacuees from New Orleans will be leaving on FEMA buses early Saturday morning. Estimated departure times could start as early as 2am. Our challenge is to stay on task through their departure and the cleanup process. Only 15 volunteers will be allowed per shift. You should plan to cover one of the shifts (see below) and be willing to assist us with the final stages of closing our shelter operation. These volunteers should be willing to be assigned any task listed below that needs to be done including but not limited to the following:

1. Using mops to disinfect the floor coverings in the gym.

2. Roll the floor covering up and put away.

3. Wipe down the gym courts (twice) with special gym floor cleaner. Right after the coverings are cleaned and again when all other work is completed .

4. Pick up trash and cigarette butts on the sun deck and around the temporary entrance.

5. Serve meals and assist with meals.

6. Load unused supplies on a trucks.

7. Assist the evacuees with luggage tags.

8. Help them carry their bags to the buses.

9. Assist with final departure paperwork.
