Swing ‘n’ Sway with the United Way
The Rutherford County government's United Way campaign effort holds a benefit concert for the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties from 2-10 p.m. Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club of Murfreesboro on Jones Boulevard.

Praise bands from New Vision Baptist Church, Christian Fellowship and the Rockvale Praise Band will play from 2-6 p.m. with Channel 4’s Larry Flowers emceeing.

Then Channel 5’s Lelan Statom takes over and hosts an evening of Rock, Rhythm and Blues with Blackman High School band, Higher Ground, and Firehouse Band from6-10 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and all proceeds benefit the United Way.

Flash & Sizzle at Five Senses
The Discovery Center at Murfree Springs has teamed up with Five Senses Restaurant & Bar for an evening of “Flash & Sizzle” at 6 o’clock Friday night.

Flash & Sizzle is an evening of live music under the stars, under the tent and indoors with fabulous food and fun for a great cause.

Five Senses will provide seven food stations, featuring brats, brisket and specialty beers. Vegetarian meals are available upon request. Cash bar will also be available.

A silent auction will be held during the event.

Hazardous Waste Day
Recycle Rutherford holds the annual Household Hazardous Waste Day from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Murfreesboro mulch location, 4765 Florence Rd.

Oil, non-latex paint and other hazardous waste will be accepted and disposed of properly.

Electronic waste will not be accepted and should be disposed of from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. every Tuesday and Saturday at the Haley Road Convenience Center.

Theater
Ragtime, the musical, will be performed by MTSU opera this weekend at Tucker Theatre.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for k-12 students and are available in advance by calling 615-494-8810 or by visiting the Tucker Theatre lobby box office between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. MTSU students and faculty must obtain free tickets in person. Tickets may also be purchased at the door prior to performance.

Lobby doors open and ticket sales begin one hour prior to performance. Seating begins 30 minutes prior to performance.

The Arts Center of Cannon County stages Driving Miss Daisy at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

One of modern American Theatre’s most touching and irresistible stories, the play is a comedy-drama that is sure to warm your heart with its message of friendship, understanding and hope.

Admission is $10 for adults, and $8 for seniors, students or groups and may be purchased by calling 615-563-ARTS (2787).

The Arts Center of Cannon County is located at 1424 John Bragg Hwy. in Woodbury.

The St. Clair Drama Team presents dinner theater with Ms. Senior Citizen Beauty Contest and The Committee at 5 p.m. Friday.

Both are comedies that will keep you laughing. Plus, Singing Seniors will perform familiar music.

St. Clair Street Senior Center is located at 325 St. Clair St.

A Southern Fried Murder takes the stage at the Center for the Arts this weekend.

Southern Fried Murder by Billy St. John takes place in New Orleans. The audience may participate in solving the mystery with a special “prize” awarded to the first person to discover the secret.

This comedy will play at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday with performances through Nov. 14. A sit down dinner sponsored by Outback Steakhouse and dessert by Scott Trover will be served by the actors.

Reservations must be made at least 72 hours in advance and nightly seating capacity is 70. Tickets are available by phone at 615-904-2787, online at www.boroarts.org, and at the box office. Tickets are $35 a person or $60 a couple. This show is suitable for children.

Cookin’ to Build
Rutherford County’s Habitat for Humanity holds Cookin' to Build from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 at Murfreesboro Civic Plaza.

For $10 participants will get to choose a hand painted bowl and enjoy samples of chili, soup and stew recipes from local Habitat supporters, a drink and dessert.

The bowl you choose is yours to keep. Habitat only has a limited amount of bowls, so it is first come first serve.

There will also be live entertainment to enjoy. All proceeds from this event will go towards future Habitat home builds.

Buchanan Elementary Chili Throw Down
Buchanan Elementary holds a chili cook-off from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the school to benefit the Parent-Teacher Organization.

The cost is $10 to enter a pot of Chili for the contest. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded.

Chili donations also accepted. Advance tickets are $5 each or 4 for $18 ($6 at the door). Unlimited inflatables will also be available for $5 each.

Get Away to Gilligan’s Island
The Webb School Parents’ Association (WSPA) is inviting everyone to “Get Away to Gilligan’s Island,” an auction and dinner event from 6-10 p.m. Friday at the Stones River Country Club.

Proceeds benefit The Webb School in Bell Buckle, a nonprofit, independent, college-preparatory school for grades 6-12.

Guests are encouraged to embrace the island theme and come dressed as Gilligan's Island  characters.

The event begins with a silent auction, followed by dinner and a live auction at 9 p.m. Auction items can be viewed online prior to the event at www.thewebbschool.com/parents/parents-auction/current-auction.

Tickets to the event are $75 per person or $150 per couple.

RCS Nutrition Association Fall Craft Fair
Rutherford County School Nutrition Association holds its second annual Fall Craft Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Blackman High School.

The day includes silent auctions, arts & crafts, children's games and food.

Turkey Shoot
Murfreesboro Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp No. 33 holds its annual Turkey Shoot from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

The event will be held off John Bragg Highway, one mile from the intersection of John Bragg and Rutherford Boulevard toward Woodbury. Look for the signs.

Prizes include turkey, ham and bacon rounds.

Model Contest and Show
IPMS of Middle Tennessee holds the Middle Tennessee Model Contest and Show from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at the Rutherford County Agricultural Center, 315 John Rice Blvd.

Unique military and model cars will be on display, plus kits will be for sale for children and adults.
