An Evening of Songs and Arias
Tickets are still available for “An Evening of Arias” featuring Katherine Sandoval Taylor at 8 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Center for the Arts.

Proceeds from the concert will go to the Center for the Arts, Inc. The Christy-Houston Foundation will match dollar for dollar all donations up to $45,000. Funds will be used to replace much needed air conditioning and heating systems, worn-out flooring and myriad other issues in the 100 year old building.

The cost for the red carpet evening will be $75 per person which will include a cash bar and dinner at B. McNeal’s Restaurant, a silent auction, the concert and a champagne/dessert reception in the art gallery after the concert.

Hollyday Marketplace
Murfreesboro’s “premier holiday shopping extravaganza” returns from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center.

Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door.

Shop early at the Candy Canes and Cocktails Preview Party, 8:30-10 a.m.

Santa photos, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Stone River Crafts Association Studio Tour
The 16th annual Stones River Crafts Association's Art Studio Tour is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Once a year our local fine craft artists of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County will open their studios to the public, offering a unique and wide selection of artwork and demonstrations.

Whether you are a long time collector or new to appreciating fine craft, you will find some of the Stones River area's finest forged iron, pottery, stained glass, weaving, woodwork, fine jewelry and functional home accessories.

Greenway planting
Angela Jackson, Murfreesboro’s program coordinator for Greenways and Wetlands, is asking for volunteers to help plant thousands of trees and shrubs along a quarter-mile of Greenway and Stones River shoreline Saturday and Sunday.

Organized to help restore vegetation destroyed by this spring’s tornado, pre-registration is requested by contacting Jackson at 893-2141 or by e-mail at ajackson@murfreesborotn.gov.

Available time slots are Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon and Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon and again at 1 to 4 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Anyone over the age of 10 can participate but parents must sign a permission/release form for children under 17. All children must be supervised by an adult.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Thompson Lane Trailhead, 2240 N. Thompson Ln. prior to each event.

Annual Cannon County Country Christmas
The annual Cannon County Country Christmas takes place Friday and Saturday, when Santa Claus arrives on the square in Woodbury at 5 p.m.

Friday afternoon and will pose for photos with children during the evening and on Saturday.

After his arrival Friday afternoon, Santa will move to the offices of the Cannon Courier (on the public square), and will pose for photos with children from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Holiday photo packages will be available for just $10. Parents can register their children to win a bag of toys being given away by the Chamber of Commerce.

Feed America First Benefit Concert
The Well Praise Team and friends throws a a benefit concert featuring the Allman Brothers’ guitarist Jack Pearson at 6:30 Sunday night in the Central Middle School auditorium, 701 E. Main Street.

Bring non-perishable food items to benefit Feed America First. A love offering will also be collected.

Theater
The Arts Center of Cannon County stages Driving Miss Daisy at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

One of modern American Theatre’s most touching and irresistible stories, the play is a comedy-drama that is sure to warm your heart with its message of friendship, understanding and hope.

Admission is $10 for adults, and $8 for seniors, students or groups and may be purchased by calling 615-563-ARTS (2787).

The Arts Center also stages a special presentation of Bambi: A Life In The Woods at 2 p.m. Saturday. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The Arts Center of Cannon County is located at 1424 John Bragg Hwy. in Woodbury.

Special Fun Run
The Special Olympics holds a 1-mile fun run at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Gateway Island Trail, 1290 Garrison Dr.

Registration fee is $10 per person and includes a T-shirt and goodie bag. The run is open for those 17 years old and younger.

Project Linus
The Murfreesboro Ladies’ Sewing Group holds a workday for Project Linus to provide security for children and teens by creating blankets.

The sewing day runs from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Lane Agri-Park, 315 John Rice Blvd.

All material and sewing machines will be provided along with lunch.

Prescription Drug Take Back
The Community Anti-Drug Coalition Of Rutherford (CADCOR) is collecting outdated and unused prescriptions of medicine to properly dispose of them.

The take-back is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the La Vergne City Hall parking lot, 5093 Murfreesboro Rd.

Not only do out-of-date prescriptions pose dangers to persons who take them, statistics show that medicine around the house is often a first-step toward illegal drug use.
