Wedding Dresses Through the Decades
Wedding dresses from many decades will be on display in Maney Hall at Oaklands Historic House Museum through Feb. 15. During this four-week exhibit, visitors will have the rare opportunity to view items from not only the museum collection that are put away for safekeeping and not normally seen by the public, but they may also enjoy elegant and fashionable wedding dresses worn by ladies from both Murfreesboro and around the country.

The exhibit will be open during regular visiting hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the exhibit is free. However, museum tours will still be available at regular rates.

MTSU Flute Festival
The 12th annual MTSU Flute Festival, featuring guest flutist Alexa Still of the Oberlin  Conservatory of Music in Ohio, will be held Saturday, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. in the Wright Music Building on campus.

A public recital by Still and MTSU faculty pianist Lillian Pearson will begin at 1 p.m. in Hinton Hall. Still and Pearson’s public recital will be followed by Still’s 2:15 p.m. master class for festival participants.

The day’s events include an 8:30 a.m. opening session in Hinton Hall, where all festival participants will play. A simultaneous session for parents will also be offered in Saunders Fine Arts 101.

Flute exhibits featuring manufacturers, flute products and flute repair will open at 9 a.m., and 9:30 a.m. brings a morning session with Still followed by a high school solo competition, junior solo competition and orchestral excerpts competition, which all begin at 10:30 a.m. Before breaking for lunch, the Festival Flute Choir, featuring event participants, will perform in Hinton Hall.  

The day’s events will conclude with a final concert featuring the winners of the high-school and junior competitions, members of the Festival Flute choir and others.

Participating flutists may register at the door with a $15 fee. Members of the public may register as guests for one or all of the public concerts and competitions for a $5-per-person charge.

Central Magnet School Super Trivia Bowl
If playing Trivial Pursuit or watching “Jeopardy” is your idea of fun, then Central Magnet School is where you’ll want to be Saturday for the Super Trivia Bowl.

The event, which will be held at the school, includes 10 rounds of thought-provoking trivia, a silent auction and “a taste of Central” buffet-style dinner.

The trivia contest is a team competition, with six people forming a team, and question categories range from entertainment to local history.

Reservations may be made by sending an e-mail request to cmssupertriviabowl@gmail.com or by printing and mailing the registration form on the Central Magnet School website.

Proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships will be used to purchase supplies and equipment for the school’s academic and fine arts endeavors.

Friday
7:30 p.m. - “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe." Runs Friday and Saturday nights and at 2 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 11. General admission: $12 per person. VIP admission: $25. Swan Performing Arts Center, 1203 Park Ave. 615-617-3784

7 p.m. - Gospel Concert. Featuring “By Faith, Classics.” New Beginnings Church, 9303 Old Rockvale Road
