JazzFest
JazzFest returns to the Square Friday night and all day Saturday with a talent-filled lineup.
This year, Friday night features every high school in Rutherford County that has a jazz band program.
Saturday’s Main Stage music begins at noon with the All Rutherford County Band.
Then at 1 p.m. the MTSU Jazz Ensemble No. 1 which is comprised of MTSU music majors will perform under the direction of Don Aliquo followed by local gospel sensation Ben Tankard.
At 3 p.m. an exceptional MTSU Faculty Group will take the stage, and then after that local jazz legend Beegie Adair, who has performed with Chet Atkins, Dinah Shore, Momma Cass and Peggy Lee will render her medleys to the crowd.
The headliner, Donald Brown, will perform at 5:30. He is a jazz composer, bandleader and pianist from Knoxville, who will be accompanied by the MTSU Faculty Group. Donald Brown will also conduct a music clinic at 2:30 in the afternoon before he performs.
Then closing out the evening on the Main Stage will be the outstanding U.S. Army Jazz Guardians from their base outside of Atlanta.
The Kroger Stage will feature middle school and high school bands in and out of Rutherford County followed by Jazzmin from Belmont University, Uberphonics , a funk/jazz band from MTSU and finally Music City Swing with the “Big Band Sound” will be the closing acts for Saturday.

Barfield Beach Party
Who says you have to drive to Florida to play in the sand?
As a kick-off for summer in the city, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation will haul in tons of sand to create the annual Barfield Beach Party at 5 p.m. Friday in Barfield Crescent Park.
Join in the fun and build sand castles, play limbo and carnival games, groove to beach music, and more.
All ages are welcome to join in the fun. In case of inclement weather, the schedule rain date is at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 8.
