Road to the Horse
Four of the world’s top horse whisperers meet four virtually un-touched young horses at the Road to the Horse Friday through Sunday at Tennessee Miller Coliseum on Thompson Lane.

A team of judges watch each clinician demonstrates his unique way of gentling a young horse and preparing it to be ridden.

In just three hours together each horse and rider team will have to negotiate an obstacle course. A winner is chosen, but in truth, the real winners are everyone. This is horsemanship at its very best.

15th annual Orpheus Competition
The Middle Tennessee Choral Society presents the 15th Annual Orpheus Competition Friday through Sunday.

The Finals Concert is Sunday night in MTSU’s Wright Music Building.

Students will compete for more than $17,000 in prizes. Tickets for the Finals are just $10 for the all-day event and are available at the door.

Seussical the Musical
The Arts Center of Cannon County stages Seussical the Musical at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1424 John Bragg Highway in Woodbury.

Although ridiculed by the other animals in the Jungle of Nool for believing in something he cannot see, Horton stubbornly persists in his belief that the Whos exist.

Discovery Center at Murfree Spring
But if you don’t want to venture to Woodbury for a heaping helping of Dr. Suess, the Discovery Center at Murfree Springs celebrates Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ Birthday with free admission from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Fun, free activities include performances by Murfreesboro City Schools Extended Schools Program‘s Performing Arts Group, Linebaugh Library Bookmobile and portable puppet show, great new traveling exhibit The Bone Zone, storybook snacks and fun art. Also door prizes throughout the day.

Vegetable Gardening for Beginners
For all those green thumbs out there who are itching for spring, the local UT/TSU Agricultural Extension offers Vegetable Gardening for Beginners from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Lane Agri-Park Community Center (home of the Farmer’s Market) on John Rice Boulevard.

Local UT and TSU Extension Agents will be the instructors.

Rain Barrel Workshop
If your garden is all ready planned, but you’re looking for a better way to water, the Cumberland River Compact and the City of Murfreesboro are teaming up to help the community enhance their yards and watersheds with a rain barrel workshop.

The workshop will be from 6-7 p.m. March 5, 2010 the Wilderness Station at Barfield Crescent Park.

The city hopes residents will bring a barrel home to capture spring showers. When installed, these rain barrels will conserve water, save on utilities, and help reduce the harmful impact of runoff to nearby streams and creeks.

The workshop is about an hour and a half long. Participants will receive a rain barrel, along with instructions for installation and helpful hints for use. The workshop is $35. Call 615-522-7602 or e-mail venaj@cumberlandrivercompact.org to register. Space is limited.

Teddy Bear Tea Party
Wear your best dress-up clothes and bring along your favorite teddy bear to the Teddy Bear Tea Party from 10 a.m. until noon or 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna.

This tea party will be a wonderful way for young ladies ages 4-10 to spend a few hours with their favorite bear and special lady, whether she be her mother, grandmother, aunt, older sister, or anyone else they wish. $8 per guest, excluding teddy bears.

First Friday Star Party
MTSU’s Dr. Eric Klumpe will discuss NASA’s Kepler Telescope and “Finding Earth-Like Expo-planets” at the First Friday Star Party from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday in room 102 at the Wiser-Patten Science Hall.

2010 American College Dance Festival Association’s Southeast Conference
MTSU and the Department of Speech and Theatre will serve as hosts for the 2010 American College Dance Festival Association’s Southeast Conference this weekend.

Throughout the event, MTSU will welcome students from 26 colleges and universities in its effort to support and promote creativity and talent from the surrounding southeastern area and across the nation.

Selected pieces will be performed in the Gala Concert at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9 in MTSU’s Tucker Theatre in the Boutwell Dramatic Arts Building. The public is welcomed to attend this performance.

Tickets for the Gala Concert may be purchased immediately prior to the event at the theater’s box office. Tickets may be purchased only with cash payments. General admission is $10 and $5 for students/faculty. Seating will promptly begin at 30 minutes before curtain time.

In addition to the Gala Concert, MTSU also will present an informal dance concert, free of charge and open to the public, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in Tucker Theatre.
