One Book event
If you’re looking for a way to reduce your water consumption, consider rain water harvesting. By collecting rain and storing it in a rain barrel, you can have water available for future use, such as for watering the garden.

Linebaugh Library will present a class on rain barrel construction at 11 a.m. Saturday as part of the 2009 One Book of Rutherford County. Robert Haley, stormwater quality program coordinator for the City of Murfreesboro, and Bruce Ross, GIS applications specialist with Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department, will lead the class.

Class size will be limited. Ten participants will be able to construct a rain barrel, using supplied materials, during the class; a $35 materials fee must be paid in advance.

Additional participants can attend the class, just to watch the process. Advance registrations are now being taken.

The 2009 One Book of Rutherford County selection is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. The book is a timely and engaging nonfiction book that deals with current concerns regarding energy, the environment, and America's food safety.

One Book challenges all citizens of Rutherford County to come together and read a book to encourage reading among adults, to unify our county through a shared experience and to highlight an issue of importance by means of a book's theme or subject matter.
