Lone Star Rodeo
Calf roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing will be some of the events featured at the 5th annual Lone Star World Championship Rodeo at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Miller Coliseum on Thompson Lane.

The rodeo is a fundraising event for the Rutherford County School Resource Officers, who are selling advance tickets at $10 for adults and $8 for children from age 4 to 12. Children under age 3 are free. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $10 for children.

“Feed Me” Dinner Theater

“Feed Me!” Blackman High School’s Senior Project Class is teaming up with A Soldier’s Child Birthday Foundation and the BHS drama department Saturday to bring you a spectacularly horrifying dinner theatre experience like never before.

For only $22, enjoy the evening’s festivities, including Blackman High’s production of the thrilling musical, Little Shop of Horrors.

The night will begin at 5 p.m. with a delicious, three-course Italian dinner served by the musical’s cast. After the meal, guests can sit back (in reserved seating) and enjoy the show at 7 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will go directly to A Soldier’s Child Birthday Foundation, a local organization founded by Daryl Mackin (Culinary Arts teacher at BHS), honoring the children of fallen soldiers.

MTSU Flute Fest

The 10th annual MTSU Flute Festival, featuring guests Angeleita Floyd and Daniel Velasco, will be Saturday, March 13, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. in the Wright Music Building lobby on the MTSU campus.

Originally scheduled for Jan. 30, the festival was canceled because of inclement weather that closed the university campus. However, all previously announced activities, including slated performers will be present at the rescheduled March 13 event.

Floyd will work with and lead the Honors Flute Choir in concert at 10 a.m. in Hinton Hall of the WMB and teach a morning session at 9 o’clock titled "No time warm-ups warm up! (Loose lips, loaded lungs and lightning speed).”

Then, at 1 p.m. in the WMB’s Hinton Hall, guest artist Valesco, a native of Quito, Ecuador, will give a public recital.

Other flute festival events will include a High School Solo and a Junior Solo competition, as well as flute exhibits including Miles Ahead Instrument Service and Sales, with repair services available.

Admission for the flute festival is $15 to register for the day as a participating flutist. The general public may register as a guest for one or all of the public concerts and public competitions for a one-time charge of $5.

Luck of the ‘Boro

Junior League of Murfreesboro will again hold its Luck of the Boro Party from 7-midnight Saturday at Indian Hills Golf Club.

It is a St. Patrick’s Party that will include food provided by Jim & Nick’s, entertainment provided by Magnolia, and a silent auction.

People who want to attend can purchase tickets at the door the evening of the party. Tickets are $40 at the door, and the doors open at 7 p.m.

Special Needs Fair

Rutherford County Schools holds the 4th annual Special Needs Fair from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Stewartsboro Elementary School.

The public is invited to attend this free event and learn about agencies and services for children and youth with disabilities. Games and activities will be provided by high school students. This is sponsored by the Rutherford County School system.

RCS will also offer early childhood screening from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Barfield Elementary School in Murfreesboro and Stewartsboro Elementary in Smyrna.

This FREE service is for children who are at least 2-years and 6-month up to 4-years old and are suspected of having vision, hearing, learning, speech or language problem. No appointments are necessary.

Teddy Bear Tea Party

Wear your best dress-up clothes and bring along your favorite teddy bear to the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna for the Teddy Bear Tea in the Creek House from 10 a.m.-noon or 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

The tea party will be a wonderful way for young ladies ages 4-10 to spend a few hours with their favorite bear and special lady, whether she be her mother, grandmother, aunt, older sister or anyone else they wish.

Cost is $8 per guest, excluding teddy bears. Reservations are required.

Fundraisers

The Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department is holding a Country Ham Breakfast from 6-10 a.m. Saturday at 8067 Old Woodbury Pike. For more information, call 890-8740.

Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department will also hold its monthly Fish Fry from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at 6531 Lascassas Paike.

All-you-can-eat meal includes fish,chicken,hush puppies, white beans, cole-slaw, french fries and choice of drink. Home-made desserts also available.

All proceedes benefit the Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department. Adult meals are $11 and discounts are available for children and seniors.

Patriot/Warrior Alumni Baseball Game
Come out to the ballgame at 1 p.m. Saturday for the inaugural Oakland-Riverdale Alumni Baseball Game at RHS’s W. T. Jones Field.

The winner will hold the Jolly-Draper Cup until next year’s game at Oakland. Trophies for Home Run Derby winner and MVP of the game will also be presented. Admission is $1 with proceeds benefiting both schools. T-shirts and hats will be on sale.
