60th annual Blackman BBQ
Join the Blackman community Friday night for the 60th annual Blackman Barbecue.

Started in 1949 as a fundraiser for the Blackman Community Club, the barbecue will take place from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Blackman Middle School.

The evening features music, activities for all ages and, of course, barbecue and all the fixings.

Homes Today Home Decorating & Remodeling Show
The latest tips for home decorating and remodeling will be on display at the Rutherford County Home Builders Association sponsored Homes Today Home Decorating & Remodeling Show on June 26-28.

The home show is slated for Friday and Saturday, June 26-27 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday, June 28 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. It will be located in for the former Linens ‘N Things location at The Avenue, next door to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Admission is $2 per person and children 12 and under are admitted free. Admission is $1 with a canned food donation for the Rutherford County Food Bank.

Nearly 100 booths showcasing the latest home decorating and remodeling products, services and supplies including tornado safe rooms, log homes, real estate and mortgage professionals, lumber companies, doors, basement systems, roofs, cabinetry, windows, security and home theater systems and much more will be on display.

First-time homebuyer workshops will be offered through the event. They will be held Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Additionally, members of the Rutherford County Home Builders Association’s Certified Professional Builders and Remodelers will hold “Ask an Expert” sessions throughout the home show, said Jim Averwater, of Averwater Construction and founder of the Certified Professional Builders and Remodelers group.

Homeowners or potential homebuyers will have the opportunity to ask questions of elite builders, remodelers, mortgage lenders, real estate agents and emergency management professionals.

The Hills are Alive
The Center for the Arts’ presentation of the Rogers and Hammerstein classic The Sound of Music continues at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Based on the uplifting true story of the Von Trapp family, The Sound of Music marked the final collaboration of the legendary songwriting duo of Rogers and Hammerstein.

A huge success on stage from its debut in 1957, The Sound of Music went on to become one of the most successful Oscar-winning film musicals ever. Its stunning, joyous songs, and timeless message of triumph over adversity remain as potent today as ever.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $8 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at www.boroarts.org or 615-904-ARTS (2787).

The Center for the Arts also holds A Grand Day With the Arts at 10:30 Saturday morning.

The event features a special event for parents and grandparents with their children, aged 2-18 (child must be accompanied by an adult). This time art dominoes and master puzzles will be made. There will also be memory and matching games using famous artworks.

Movies Under the Stars
Movies Under the Stars, the city’s annual summer tradition, returns for another family-fun summer.

This week’s selection, a touching, warm-hearted, humorous, sweet little movie about a friendly ghost, will be screened at 8:30 p.m. at Mitchell-Neilson Primary on Friday and Hobgood Elementary on Saturday.

Bring your lawn chairs, blanket and picnic and enjoy the show. Concessions will be available.

MTMC/First Baptist Free Health Fair
Middle Tennessee Medical Center and First Baptist Church join forces this weekend for a free community health fair.

The fair runs from 10 a.m.-2p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 738 East Castle St.

All sessions and services are frre and open to the public. Doctors from MTMC will be lecturing on various health problems, there will be a question/answer time after each session.

From 9 a.m.-noon, a Kroger Pharmacist will be conducting special tests, some of these tests require that you fast before the test, please call the church office 615-893-5322 to sign up.

Of the 20 vendors expected, Murfreesboro Police will be on hand to fingerprint children for safety and protection and to correctly install car seats for children.

Seminars include: Heart Disease, Breast Cancer, Pulmonary Care, Stroke, Diabetes, Depression, Alzheimer’s and Suicide Prevention.

Delta Zeta Beef & Beer
Join Delta Zeta for an evening of Beef & Beer from 7-11 p.m. June 26 at the Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors office, 311 Butler Dr.

The fundraiser benefits the local chapter of the American Legion.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door.

The evening will include a DJ and doorprizes, including two tickets on Southwest Airlines.

Southern Night's Ball
The Vine at 118 W. Vine St., plays host to a night of Southern Charm with a Southern Night's Ball, where ladies wear gowns of any era and gents will be in collared shirts and slacks.

The fun begins at 7 p.m., when you can dance to southern favorites.

Bar and bites will be available. Admission is $5.

Creative Cooking at Linebaugh
Visit Linebaugh Library from 1-2 p.m. Friday for Creative Cooking with Katie.

Katie Martin Peachey will teach some great new recipes in this hands-on, interactive culinary program demonstrating that a delicious healthy meal comes from a creative mind. Free for ages 12 and up.

Iris Sale
The Mid-State Iris Association holds its annual plant sale at 9 a.m. Saturday in the old Farmer’s Market Shed at Cannonburgh.

All iris plants are sold at greatly reduced prices, and they go quickly–so be there early.

Stones River National Battlefield
Rangers at Stones River National Battlefield will give living history demonstrations, like Living Under the Guns where visitors will learn about war on the home front in Murfreesboro through the story of one its residents.

Rangers will also present A Soldiers Story, A Ride Through History: A Caravan Tour of Stones River National Battlefield, The Line That Wouldn`t Break, We Fought At Stones River, Rising From the Ashes: The Cemetery Community, Bicycle Tour to Fortress Rosecrans and Remembering Stones River.
