Farmers’ Market
Rutherford County’s Farmers’ Market opens in its new home at 6 a.m. Friday at Lane Agri-Park on John Rice Boulevard.

Cool season vegetables, like onions, lettuces, etc., will be plentiful in the first weeks with corn, tomatoes and other homegrown goodies in the weeks to come.

The Farmers’ Market is held every Tuesday and Friday morning through the last week in October.

Duck Derby Bash
There’s no Triple Crown on the line at the Duck Derby Bash, but party-goers will still throw down Kentucky style.

The Kentucky derby-style party with hats, sundresses and summer attire, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Kathy and Pat Ryan's Bear Branch Cove to kick off the Duck Derby season in support of the Child Advocacy Center.

The party promotes the 3rd annual rubber duckie race and adoptions. The Duck Derbey will be July 18.

Duck adoptions will be available for $5 beginning at the Duck Derby Bash, will hopes of racing 10,000 ducks this year.. This will be the first opportunity for the public to adopt their winning ducks.

Tickets are $50 in advance, $55 at the door, and Include dinner and dancing. Specialty drink of the party is "the duck julep."

All proceeds go to support the Child Advocacy Center which provides services for child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending family members.

Theatre
Murfreesboro Little Theater stages the Tony award-winning musical Working at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Working depicts the daily life of several blue-collar American laborers, including a waitress, a truck driver, a mill worker, a supermarket clerk, and a retiree.

The Center for the Arts presents the Rogers and Hammerstein classic The Sound of Music at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Based on the uplifting true story of the Von Trapp family, The Sound of Music marked the final collaboration of the legendary songwriting duo of Rogers and Hammerstein.

A huge success on stage from its debut in 1957, The Sound of Music went on to become one of the most successful Oscar-winning film musicals ever. Its stunning, joyous songs, and timeless message of triumph over adversity remain as potent today as ever.

If theatergoers don’t recognize at least one of the women in First Baptist of Ivy Gap, which opens Friday at The Arts Center of Cannon County, they probably haven’t been to church in a while.

The story centers around six Bible thumping Baptist girls from Tennessee during the closing days of World War II, brought together to roll bandages for the Red Cross and plan their church’s 75th anniversary celebration. 

First Baptist of Ivy Gap will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays.

Movies Under the Stars
Movies Under the Stars, the city’s annual summer tradition, returns for another family-fun summer.

This week’s selection, the story of a spunky girl is stranded on an island with her horse after her father's ship is carried off by a sudden storm, will be screened at 8:30 p.m. at Mitchell-Neilson Primary on Friday and Hobgood Elementary on Saturday.

Bring your lawn chairs, blanket and picnic and enjoy the show. Concessions will be available.

Stones River National Battlefield
Rangers at Stones River National Battlefield will give living history demonstrations and tours of the battlefield, like a Bicycle Tour to Fortress Rosecrans on Saturday when a park ranger will lead a two-hour tour along the Stones River Greenway to the remnants of Fortress Rosecrans.

The group will stop along the way to discuss the military importance of the fortress and the impact of the Federal occupation on the residents of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.

Rangers will also present A Soldiers Story on Friday and Monday, Rising From the Ashes: The Cemetery Community on Saturday and A Ride Through History: A Caravan Tour of Stones River National Battlefield on Saturday and Sunday.

Visit Bumpus Harley Davidson from 3-5 p.m. Sunday for an afternoon of fun with rockin' live music, free hot dogs and cold drinks.
