Winter Reading Program
As a kickoff to Linebaugh Library’s Winter Reading Program, New York Times bestselling author Robert Hicks will appear from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at Linebaugh Library, where he will speak about his new book, A Separate Country.
Following a question and answer period at the free and open event, Hicks will sign copies of his books, which will also be available for purchase.
Hicks will also participate in a Friends of Linebaugh Library membership luncheon from 12-2 p.m. Jan. 23 at The Vine.
Friends of Linebaugh members can attend for $5, which includes lunch. Non-members can pay $25 to attend, which includes the cost of joining the Friends group and lunch.
Hicks’s first novel, The Widow of the South, told the Civil War-era story of Carrie McGavock, whose plantation home in Franklin, Tenn., was transformed into first a field hospital, then later a cemetery for those wounded and killed during the Battle of Franklin.

Critically acclaimed author Michael Lee West will be speaking about her heartfelt Southern novels at Smyrna Public Library on Saturday.
Michael Lee West’s books have garnered favorable praise from publications such as Romantic Times, Publishers Weekly, and Library Journal. Library Journal called West’s latest book a “charming tale” and said that West “has a knack for realistic and engaging characters.”
West, a resident of Lebanon, Tennessee, grew up in Cookeville and graduated from E.T.S.U., where she earned a degree in nursing.
The author talk will be held at Smyrna Public Library in the conference room at 1 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.

Murfreesboro Little Theater
This is the last weekend to catch Murfreesboro Little Theatre’s The Great American Trailer Park Musical, which is a country-rock and blues musical about the lives and loves of a trailer park community.
It’s the story of Pippi, a new tenant and runaway stripper at Armadillo Acres, Florida's most exclusive trailer park. Her arrival wreaks havoc on the unhappy marriage of the agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband, Norbert.
The Great American Trailer Park Musical contains adult language and situations; mature audience is recommended.
Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturdays with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees at 702 Ewing Blvd. All tickets are $15.

Mystery Tour
The Arts Center of Cannon County presents Mystery Tour: A tribute to the Beatles! At 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The evening of great memories will be performed by some of the best studio musicians in Music City.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and groups of 10 or more, and $5 for students.

Polar Bear Golf
The Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club holds the sixth annual Polar Bear Golf Tournament on Saturday at Indian Hills Golf Course.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Exchange Club’s Child Abuse Prevention projects and other community service programs.
Check in and breakfast is at 8:30 a.m. and the shotgun start begins at 10 a.m.
It is limited to 144 players in teams of 4. The $75 per player fee includes breakfast, lunch, coffee and hot chocolate, range ball, cart rental, green fees, prizes in two flights and goodie bags.

Double Reed Day
Saturday marks the day that the MTSU School of Music will present its seventh annual Double Reed Day, a daylong event for double reed players (oboes, bassoons) of all ages, which will feature a 9 a.m. guest artist concert featuring Stephanie Wilson and Hana Lee and a 5:30 p.m. finale concert showcasing participants.
Both concerts, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the T. Earl Hinton Hall of the Wright Music Building on the MTSU campus. Additionally, the special-event day is open to K-12, college and professionals players. Registration, $10 per player, will begin at 8 a.m. in the lobby of the WMB.
Also, MTSU’s Angela DeBoer will perform on a horn at an MTSU faculty recital at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Wright Music Building.
