MLK Brunch
Four community members will be honored for their humanitarian deeds at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Brunch at 10 a.m. Saturday in MTSU’s James Union Building.
Three Jerry Anderson Humanitarian Awards will be presented along with a Jerry Anderson Hero recipient, Charlie Sims of Murfreesboro. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The annual MLK Brunch is sponsored by the Murfreesboro branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and by MTSU’s Department of Intercultural and Diversity Affairs.
State Rep. Brenda Gilmore, of Nashville, is guest speaker for the event.
Motocross at Miller Coliseum
REMAX Indoor Arena Cross-Tour comes to town Saturday and Sunday at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum, 304-B West Thompson Ln.
The Arenacross Tour is a 13-round professional indoor motocross tour, with 2 individual amateur state championships.
Pro motocross and pro quad racers compete for a total cash payout of more than $50,000.
Amateurs race for series awards and prizes. Races are run in motocross format, instead of traditional arenacross format, to give participants more track time.

Murfreesboro Little Theater
Murfreesboro Little Theatre kicks off 2010 season with The Great American Trailer Park Musical, which is a country-rock and blues musical about the lives and loves of a trailer park community.
It’s the story of Pippi, a new tenant and runaway stripper at Armadillo Acres, Florida's most exclusive trailer park. Her arrival wreaks havoc on the unhappy marriage of the agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband, Norbert.
The play contains adult language and situations; mature audience is recommended.
Show dates are Jan. 8-24, with performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturdays with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees at 702 Ewing Blvd. All tickets are $15.

Local Author Appearance
Local author, novelist and civil rights activist Dr. Ruthie-Marie Beckwith will be reading and signing her new novel Seven Days At Oak Valley from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Hastings Bookstore, 1660 Memorial Blvd.
At a time when services are being cut and people with developmental disabilities are forced to remain in institutions despite the 1999 Olmstead decision, Beckwith’s book is particularly pertinent. Tony, the protagonist, lives in an East Tennessee mental institution in the 1970’s. He has a developmental disability, but has an ability to use his detective skills to solve crimes.

Belle Aire Baptist Concert
Nashville Praise Symphony will perform at at 6 p.m. Saturday in Belle Aire Baptist Church, 1307 N. Rutherford Blvd.
The symphony features 50 professional, semi-professional, and amateur musicians who all volunteer their time and conductor Camp Kirkland.
The Nashville Praise Group is a collaboration of amateur and professional musicians joining their talents to bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ.

Country Ham Breakfast
Country ham and all the fixings will be available from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department at 8067 Old Woodbury Highway.
Phone orders will be available by calling 890-8740. All proceeds are used to fund the volunteer fire department.
