Heart Ball
The 2009 Rutherford Heart Ball, an elegant celebration of life, takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday night at Embassy Suites. This year’s honorees ate Kat and Bubba Woodfin with entertainment provided by The Pat Patrick Band.

All proceeds benefit the American Heart Association.

The Rutherford Heart Ball represents an ideal venue for corporate, medical & philanthropic sponsors to support the educational vital programs and research funding of the American Heart Association while obtaining corporate goodwill and visibility among community leaders in Rutherford.

The American Heart Association is the nation’s premier volunteer health agency dedicated to reducing disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke, the nation‘s No. 1 and No. 3 killers. Our impact goal is to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk 25 percent by the year 2010. Achieving this goal requires our active support.

Theater
Murfreesboro Little Theatre presents “Steel Magnolias” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the theater on Ewing Boulevard.

National Wear Red Day
On Friday, join with millions of women, as well as companies, organizations and cities across America for National Wear Red Day.

By wearing red and making a donation, you'll help the American Heart Association support ongoing research and education about women and heart disease.

It's easy to be a part of this special day. The AHA has made it simple with free, downloadable tools. Use them anytime of the year to host your own Wear Red Day event. It's a great way to raise awareness and help us fight our No. 1 killer - heart disease.

MTSU’s June Anderson Women’s Center also will distribute red ribbons and educational information in the lobby of the Keathley University Center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.

The Language of Love and Courtship
During February, Oaklands Historic House Museum tours feature a month-long program that explores the courtship customs of the Victorian Era.

The romantic language of flowers and fans, as well as the rules of engagement for courting will be presented on daily tours by the museum docents.

The program is open to the public and worth seeing by all. There is no additional charge for this fun event.

Stones River National Battlefield
During Black History Month Programs, Stones River National Battlefield rangers will share their favorite programs that shed light on the stories of African Americans during the Civil War.

Black History Month programs take place from 2-3:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday weekly from Feb. 1-21 at the Visitor Center.

The programs are free and open to the public.

MT Choral Society
Choral Society presents "Echoes from a Cathedral,” a concert, at 3 p.m. Sunday in Wright Music Building on MTSU campus.

The Middle Tennessee Choral Society and MTSU Schola Cantorum will present works by Handel, Bach, Gounod, Matthias and Parry at the final concert of the season.

Soloists are Dina Cancryn, soprano; Stephen Smith, tenor; Polly Brecht, organ; and Jay Bailey, trumpet.

Tickets at door: adults $10, seniors 65 and older $9, children 12 and under $8, university students free.

MTSU Star Party
MTSU associate professor Eric Klumpe will discuss the “Spitzer Space Telescope (The Infrared Universe”) during the First Friday Star Party starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Wiser-Patten Science Hall Room 102.

The approximately two-hour event includes Klumpe’s 30- to 45-minute public lecture followed by outdoor telescope observing, weather permitting.

The free star party is open to MTSU students, faculty and staff and the general public. Children are welcome, event organizers said.

Book signings
Barnes and Noble holds Local Author Day With Dr. William R. Morgan and Amy Christensen on Saturday at The Avenue.

Morgan will be available to sign copies of his motivational self-help book, "The Real Stuff of Success” at 1 p.m.

Christensen will be available to sign copies of her historical fiction book, "The Pier” between noon and 2 p.m.

Interior Design Showcase
Shirley Horowitz, interior designer and owner of Davishire Interiors, will visit MTSU on Saturday, Feb. 7, to serve as the keynote speaker for the 4th Annual Interior Design Showcase.

Members of the MTSU student chapter of ASID/IIDA will serve as hosts for the Nashville-based designer’s upcoming talk, “An Interior Design Journey: The Interior Renovation of Far Hills, Tennessee Governor’s Residence,” which will be presented in the Tennessee Room of the university’s James Union Building.
