Rutherford County Christmas tree lighting
County Mayor Ernest Burgess and Santa Claus will flip the switch to turn on the lights of the Rutherford County community Christmas tree Friday on the south side of the historic Courthouse with entertainment for the whole family adding to the holiday spirit.

The Puppets of Praise from First Baptist Church begins at 5:30 with a special pre-show performance; followed by the main stage program which begins crisply at 6 p.m.

Performers on the main stage will include Bradley School of the Arts orchestra, Siegel Middle School choir, Baker Performance Academy dancers, Brooke Arrington, North Boulevard Church a cappella choir, Homer Pittard Campus School choir, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church choir and Oakland High School Choir.

Oaklands Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes
The annual Oaklands Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday in downtown Murfreesboro.

The tour, sponsored by the Oaklands Association and MidSouth Bank, will feature beautiful and historic private homes, a distinctive church, and the graceful Oaklands Historic House Museum.

Set in the historic district of Murfreesboro, stops along the delightful tour include church and residences.

The cornerstone is Oaklands Historic House Museum. Docents in period attire will guide visitors through the history of this gracious mansion.

The proceeds of the Candlelight Tour of Homes go toward the care and upkeep of this historic treasure.

Admission is $10 per person 21 years and older, students $8, ages 6-12, $5, ages 5 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased at any home on the tour and at Oaklands Historic House Museum.

Open House at the Discovery Center
The Discovery Center at Murfree Springs offers free admission to the community with an open house from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Santa will pay a special visit after helping light the county’s Christmas tree Friday night.

Frozen Toes-ens: Movies Under the Stars Holiday Edition
Back by popular demand, a special holiday edition of Movies Under the Stars will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village featuring a classic holiday movie. 

“Movies Under the Stars” has been a time-honored tradition for families with PG-rated movies and relaxation under the night sky. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, hats and mittens for a unique winter event.

Free hot chocolate will be available and popcorn will be for sale.

Smyrna Christmas Parade
Smyrna holds An Old Fashioned Christmas, the city’s 35th annual Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The parade route will be Lowry Street from Mayfield Drive traveling north to Nolan Drive, ending in front of the Kmart shopping center.

Christmas Theater
The MTSU School of Music presents Handel’s Messiah at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday night in Wright Music Hall.

Belle Aire Baptist Church presents Life, Death and Two Strips of Bacon, a dramedy about life in a small town diner, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Four waitresses, a cook and the town sheriff spend time talking about life, food, God and how to deal with difficult situations that arise in a small town like Mapleton.

Admission is free. Belle Air Baptist is located at 1307 North Rutherford Blvd.

The Center for the Arts presents the sequel to Smoke on the Mountain directed by John Blankenship at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
 
Conceived and directed by Alan Bailey and written by Connie Ray, A Sanders Family Christmas is a nostalgic comedy set to music and the second of three installments of the Sanders family’s life.

Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors (65+), active military (with ID) and students (12-18 or with valid ID), and $10 for children under 12.

The Center for the Arts is located at 110 W. College St., one block off the historic Murfreesboro Square.

The Arts Center of Cannon County presents a holiday dinner feast followed by the Radio Play: It’s A Wonderful Life at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Arts Center of Cannon County is located at 1424 John Bragg Hwy. in Woodbury.

Smyrna’s Lamplighter’s Theater also tackles Radio Play: It’s A Wonderful Life at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Assembly of God Church in Smyrna.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (55 and up) and $5 for children (4-12 years).

The Assembly of God Church is located at 14119 Old Nashville Hwy.

The  Sunshine Players present Babes in Toyland at 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in the theatre at the Patterson Community Center on Mercury Boulevard.

The troupe is part of the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department and help youngsters gain confidence through theater.

Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6 for youth and senior citizens.

Victorian Holiday Feast at MTSU
The MTSU Women’s Chorale will present the 2nd annual Victorian Holiday Feast featuring a dinner and music at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Tennessee Room of the James Union building on the MTSU campus.

The Victorian Feast begins with the assembly of guests in the lobby of the James Union Building starting at 6 o’clock, with entrance to the dining area of the Tennessee Room at 6:30 p.m. sharp.

The evening will feature such holiday classics as White Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Carol of the Bells, Ding Dong Merrily On High and dinner.

Admission is $30 or $17 for MTSU students for the meal and full evening of entertainment. High school groups wishing to attend may call 615-898-5922 for information on a discounted table rate. Tickets are available by mail order only.

Breakfast with Santa
The Buchanan Elementary PTO invites the community to meet Santa Claus for breakfast from 8-11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Photos with Santa will be available, plus a holiday craft fair for your shopping convenience.

$6 at the door, $5 in advance at the school, which is just a short drive down Manchester Hwy.

Santa will also visit Kittrell Elementary School from 8-11 a.m. Saturday morning to have pancakes and take pictures with the faithful.

Advance tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, or at-the-door $7 for adults and $5 for children. Picture packets are $12 and include two 5 x 7 photos and 8 wallet size.

20th annual Hattie Alexander Memorial Dinner
The 20th Hattie Alexander Memorial Dinner will be held from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Clair Senior Center, 325 St. Clair St.

Sponsored by Wordna and Henry McKnight, this event is open to the public and is not only for seniors. Feel free to bring a senior citizen, but everyone is welcomed to come.
