MTSU Graduation
On Saturday, Dec. 19, MTSU will again feature dual ceremonies and dual speakers starting at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Murphy Center. Of the 1,633 set to graduate during the 98th fall commencement, 1,398 are undergraduates and 235 are graduate students, including 218 master’s candidates, 12 Education Specialist recipients and five Ph.D. candidates.

Mike Williams, a former state representative and MTSU alumnus, will serve as the guest speaker for the 9 a.m. ceremony.

Ellen Leifeld, former publisher and president of The Tennessean in Nashville, will be the featured speaker for the 1 p.m. commencement ceremony.

Theater
The Center for the Arts presents the sequel to Smoke on the Mountain directed by John Blankenship at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday.
 
Conceived and directed by Alan Bailey and written by Connie Ray, A Sanders Family Christmas is a nostalgic comedy set to music and the second of three installments of the Sanders family’s life.

Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors (65+), active military (with ID) and students (12-18 or with valid ID), and $10 for children under 12.

The Center for the Arts is located at 110 W. College St., one block off the historic Murfreesboro Square.

Murfreesboro Little Theater presents The 1940s Radio Hour at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 702 Ewing Ave.

The Arts Center of Cannon County stages the holiday classic, Radio Play: It’s A Wonderful Life this weekend.

Santa’s Splash & Dash
After last year's Splash & Dash success, Murfreesboro Parks & Rec decided to bring the jolly old elf Santa back this year.

On Saturday, Santa’s Splash & Dash is going to be a night of swimming, arts and crafts, pizza and dessert, and of course a Christmas-themed movie.

Parents can also use this to their advantage, and get some last minute Christmas shopping in.

The cost is $5 and pre-registration is required.

Christmas Festivities
The Generation for Creation invites the public to “Festivities,” which includes an art show and a play called “The Star”.

“Festivities” are at 4 p.m. Saturday at Middle Tennessee Christian School.
