Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
Main Street Murfreesboro/Rutherford and Rutherford County will host the annual Christmas Tree Lighting from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Murfreesboro.

As Santa lights the tree on the Courthouse lawn, area school and church musical groups will offer the festive music of the season. Many downtown merchants will also be open to offer special treats to attendees.

Bethlehem Marketplace
Southeast Baptist Church will resurrect the village of Bethlehem at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Dec. 10-11, at 708 Minerva Drive.

This year marks the show’s 30th anniversary.

The marketplace is a re-enactment, performed entirely by church members, of how the village of Bethlehem might have appeared just after the birth of Jesus, and will feature Roman soldiers, live camels and other animals, tentmakers, weavers, carpenters and merchants.

The event is free and open to the public.

Oaklands Candlelight Tour of Homes
The annual Oaklands Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes is slated to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday and will feature private homes along Maney Avenue, a distinctive church on East Main Street and the graceful Oaklands Historic House Museum.

Interpreters in period attire will guide residents through the tour. The proceeds of the Candlelight Tour of Homes go toward the care and upkeep of the mansion.

Admission is $10 per person, $8 for students, $5 for ages 6 through 12, and ages 5 and under receive free admission.
