Red Cross Barn Party
Get ready to kick up your boots and enjoy some bluegrass style country music, Barbeque and a good time at the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee Chapter Barn Party 2009 at 7 p.m. Saturday in Murfreesboro’s Womack Stables.
This Barn Party will help raise funds to ensure that the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross is ready to respond to future disasters in Rutherford, Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Franklin & Moore counties.
Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased online at www.midtnredcross.org. Ticket cost includes food, beverages and fun. Food will be provided by Ryan’s Smokin' Rotisserie.
All funds that are collected through ticket sales and company sponsorships will go to help the local Red Cross Chapter help victims of local disasters, such as fires, tornadoes and floods.

The United Way kicks off its 2009 campaign with a community concert featuring Denny Diamond from 5-9 p.m. Friday at Stones River Mall Lifestyles Center.

At 6 p.m. United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties officially kicks off the Fall 2009 Campaign. At 7 p.m. Denny Diamond performs live.

OHS Memorial Service
Oakland High School will hold its annual memorial service at the Memorial Fountain on campus at 5 p.m. Aug. 16.
There will be special music and the reading of the names on the fountains and planters. The community is invited to attend.

The Center for the Arts, 110 W. College St., stages Big River at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.
The play is based on Mark Twain’s classic antebellum story of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, with music and lyrics by Grammy award winner Roger Miller, and book by William Hauptman.
Take an exciting ride down the Mississippi River in this classic musical adventure with a thrilling score mixing gospel, folk, country and blues.

The Arts Center of Cannon County stages the musical Man Of Constant Sorrow this weekend with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
From the author of “Keep on the Sunny Side: the Songs and Stories of the Carter Family”, Man of Constant Sorrow reveals the struggle of Ralph Stanley and his older brother Carter, to find an audience for their music at a time when bluegrass and mountain music were being rapidly replaced by country and rock.

Kittrell’s Volunteer Fire Department, 8067 Woodbury Pike, will serve a delicious country ham breakfast from 6-10 a.m. Saturday.
