| Lonestar Rodeo
Cowgirls racing around barrels and cowboys riding broncs will delight spectators during the LoneStar Rodeo March 4-5 at Miller Coliseum on Thompson Lane near Siegel High School in Murfreesboro.
Other events include saddle bronc riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, team roping and bull riding with entertainment by a clown between acts, said Whitworth-Buchanan School Resource Officer Chris Templeton of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.
The 6th Annual SRO Rodeo will begin each night at 7 p.m. with a children's act followed by the full rodeo from 7:30 p.m. to about 10 p.m. Advance tickets are $8 per child and $10 per adult and $10 per child and $15 per adult at the gate.
Tickets may be purchased from any SRO at schools or at the sheriff's office at 940 New Salem Highway. Anyone with valid military identification will get in free Friday night.
Public safety employees will get free admission Saturday with a badge and identification. This includes law enforcement officers, firefighters, Emergency Medical Services paramedics and EMTs, rescue squad volunteers and first responders.
Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase materials and supplies for classes taught by SROs, to fund alcohol prevention programs, to operate the boot camp, Operation Integrity, and to fund other SRO-sponsored programs.
About 800 special needs students will be treated to rodeo acts and activities such as a hay ride, pony rides and a petting zoo presented by Bill Boner. Middle Tennessee Catering at MTSU will prepare lunches for the students. For more information, call 904-3070.
Shariah Law 101 postponed
In view of the recent development with regard to the stabbing death of Lady Raider Tina Stewart Wednesday night, and in order to allow for the Imam, the Muslim Student Association members, and the Muslim community to participate in the candle vigil tonight and out of respect for the victim, her family, and the MTSU community at large, MSA has decided to postpone tonight’s presentation entitled “Shariah Law 101,” by Imam Ossama Bahloul of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro to a later date to be determined. The presentation was scheduled for tonight at 6:00 in the Tennessee Room of the James Union Building at MTSU.
