Murfreesboro topped out at 95 degrees Monday, which is a far shot from the record high of 102 recorded in 1926.
Last year’s high was recorded at 86 degrees, which is surprising considering the long, hot summer. Average high temperatures for mid-July are in the upper 80s.
Tuesday was projected to be another scorcher with a projected high of 98 degrees with a heat index at 101 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
There’s also a 30-percent chance of scattered thunderstorms during the day, due to building afternoon heat, possibly with high winds and hail.
The Weather Service also advises a 60-percent chance overnight from a cool front pushing into the mid-state.
The front will bring a brief respite in the form of a high in the mid-80s Wednesday. However, temperatures begin to climb back into the 90s for the end of the week.
