Starting your married life together? Great! Renting a pad instead of buying one? Super! Worried you won’t be able to make a rental space a home? Don’t be! MMC Properties has a couple of easy personalization ideas that keeps your property manager happy and your heart warm.
The possibilities of adding color to your new home are endless. Furniture is a great starting point! Add a couple of coats of paint of your favorite color to the chairs of your dining or kitchenette set to brighten up the room. You can also simply coordinate a colorful palette with your placemats, dinnerware and centerpieces. In the living and bedrooms, purchase two or three fabrics with similar patterns of color, add stuffing and sew up your new throw pillows. What to do with left over fabric? Piece pre-cut squares together and hang your new tapestry on the wall of a conjoining room, or simply carry your scheme into the bathroom as a shower curtain (don’t forget a liner!).
Adding a little green is easy and very customizable! Succulents are always your safest bet. They don’t require much attention and can go up to a week without water. Also, they look great against other plants, grouped together or standing alone. Another favorite (for those with no small children or pets) is cacti. The cactus plant is the low maintenance brother of the succulent, but with a slightly different look. It also produces a beautiful bloom that appeases our color category. Once you’ve tackled plants on a beginner’s level, graduate yourself upward to greenery that needs more of your attention. You wouldn’t believe the amount of pride that comes with keeping houseplants alive.
Accent colors and plants are quick a jumpstart, but the opportunities are endless when reinventing a rental, so don’t shy away from ideas that could amp up your new(lywed) home!
