Fifteen students at The Webb School have earned AP® Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on 2009 AP Exams. The students represent 43 percent of all Webb students who took an AP Exam this past spring and 30 percent of the 2009 graduating class.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on AP Exams. About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million students worldwide who took AP Exams in the spring of 2009 performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
At The Webb School seven students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 out of a possible top score of 5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Those earning this distinction were: Casey Blacker of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; Zola Chihombori-Quao of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Ik-Hwan Kim of Korea; Elizabeth Moss of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Will Murphy of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Kashyap Saxena of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and Scott Wisniewski of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Three students, Soyoung Choi of Korea; Daniel Hoover of Manchester, Tenn.; and James Tian of China, qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
Four more students earned the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars were Sam Bartlett of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Do-Hyun Kim of Korea; Ho Jin Kim of Korea; and Erin McMahon of Rockvale, Tenn. A junior at Webb, Ho Jin Kim, has at least one more year in which to complete college-level work and possibly earn another AP Scholar Award.
