| The Riverdale Warriors ventured Saturday night to Papa Johns Stadium in Lousiville, Ken. and took on Kentucky's No. 2 ranked St. Xavier Tiger.
St. X, also nationally ranked, fell to the powerful Warriors 23-9 and it wasn't that close, as the Tigers scored its only touchdown very late in the game.
Riverdale is now 2-0 on the very young season.
It's very early, of course, and many powerful opponents remain for Riverdale in the final eight games beginning with the well coached Smyrna Bulldogs who are 1-1 and coming off a very impressive road win, 28-7 over Brentwood.
The Bulldogs invade Tomahawk Stadium Friday night at 7:30.
For the Warriors in the super win over the Tigers, Marcelous Odom had 51 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Dillon Woodruff threw for 192 yards on 14-of-16 passing and was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the game.
Adam Davenport turned in a great game as he rushed for 81 yards and scored a TD on an 80-yard pass from Woodruff.
Senior defensive back Lamar Brown had 12 tackles and was voted the Defensive Player of the Game as the Riverdale D kept the powerful Tigers out of the end zone until it didn't matter.
The kicking game was strong again as Amin Arman had two extras and a second quarter 29-yard FG, which stretched the Warrior lead to 10-3 at half.
Odom's TD was in the second quarter as well, the Woodruff to Davenport long pass was in the third quarter and Woodruff had the final red and gold TD on a 9-yard run in the forth.
All in all, a great Warrior Saturday night.
