Warrants pending in attack of mom, sibling

TMP Reports

Charges are pending against a 21-year-old man accused of stabbing his 16-year-old brother and attacking his mother during separate fights Sunday, sheriff’s deputies reported.

Brother Mason Deforrest, 16, of Richland Road suffered a puncture wound to his right thigh when his brother apparently stabbed him with a pool stick, Deputy Roscoe Sanders reported. He suffered an open wound on his left hand and a bruised and swollen right hand.

Mason Deforrest was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Mother Melinda Deforrest, 41, suffered scratches. She did not want to obtain arrest warrants against her son but Sanders obtained arrest warrants for the fight with the brother.

Mason Deforrest told Sanders he wanted to go to church with a friend but his mother told him he couldn’t leave the house. His brother taunted him and tossed rocks at him, escalating into a fight. Their mother separated them and the older son “slammed her to the ground.”

When Mason Deforrest tried to leave, he accused his brother of stabbing him, the deputy reported. The brother fled when deputies arrived.

Cpl. Travis Robinson and Deputy Clint Teasley responded about five hours later to the family’s home where Melinda Deforrest told them she got into a fight with her older son. When she tried to call 911, he disconnected the phone. They struggled over her purse before she accused him of stealing it.

The mother talked to deputies but she refused help and the offer to obtain arrest warrants against her son.

Detective Sgt. Ron Killings is investigating.
