Volunteers needed for Duck Derby

Volunteers are needed to tag 10,000 rubber ducks for the Child Advocacy Center’s Duck Derby June 11.

The duck tagging party will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the CAC at 1040 Samsonite Blvd. across from the driver’s license testing center.

Pizza and beverages will be served. Volunteers should wear shorts, T-shirts and flip flops to be comfortable. Please email the center at CACRC@aol.com if you plan to attend.

More than 6,000 abused children have been served during the past 10 years at the Child Advocacy Centers in Rutherford and Cannon counties. The children and their families learn to heal through the services.

The annual Duck Derby raises funds for the non-profit CAC to keep proving the services for children.

Ten thousand ducks will be dropped into Stones River at the Sportsman’s Club June 11. People who adopt the first ducks to cross the finish line will receive prizes. The grand prize is $5,000 with other prize packages such as a trip to Orange Beach, Ala., and Gatlinburg.

Ducks may be adopted for $5 each or $25 for a quack pack. Ducks may be adopted at Demos' restaurant, US Bank, FirstBank, Top of the Block, Bell Jewelers, the Daily News Journal, Murfreesboro Post, Reeves Sain, Mills Pharmacy and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office in Murfreesboro.

Cannon County Duck Adoption Sites include the Child Advocacy Center at 214 W. Water St., First Bank, at 101 W. Main St. and First National Bank at 801 W. Main St. in Woodbury. Cannon County duck adoptions can be mailed to the Child Advocacy Center located at 214 W. Water St. in Woodbury or dropped off at the Child Advocacy Center mailbox on the square across from the courthouse.
