SMYRNA, TENN. – A job fair will be held for all Tennessee National Guard members, reservists and spouses Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Smyrna Volunteer Training Site.

The event, which is also open to veterans of all military branches, will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Building 500 training site in Smyrna.

“We’re all taught to look out for our buddies and hiring fairs are one way of doing that,” said Gen. Maj. Terry "Max" Haston, who serves as adjutant general for the Tennessee National Guard. “Some service members have returned from Iraq or Afghanistan to find the place where they worked no longer in business, and now they’re out looking."

As a result, the National Guard is trying to help them every way possible, he said.

“This is an opportunity not only for our guard and reserve members and their spouses, but all veterans,” said Marvin Wells, executive director for the Tennessee Employer Support for the National Guard and reserve units. “The employers attending this event have job openings and are eager to speak to individuals with military skills.”

Employers already scheduled to be at the hiring fair include Dollar General, HCA Healthcare, Auto Zone, Asurion Corp., which offers insurance for cell phones, Yates Services, Demos Restaurant, Averitt Express, Transcorp and Manpower.
