On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Rutherford County will pay tribute to those who served and gave the supreme sacrifice to protect the U.S.A.

The Veteran’s Day Tribute begins at 11 a.m. Friday on the Public Square in Murfreesboro.

Activities include a color guard from a local high school JROTC and patriotic music performed.

MTSU has scheduled many activities are part of its 30th annual Salute to Armed Services/Veterans Day, held Saturday, Nov. 19.

Events include a veterans’ memorial service at the Tom H. Jackson Building starting at 10:30 a.m., a pre-game picnic from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Kennon Hall of Fame Building and the presentation of the Dr. Joe Nunley Memorial Award to State Sen. Doug Henry of Nashville between 12:30 and 1 p.m. in the hall of fame building.

The 2 p.m. MTSU vs. Arkansas State football game in Floyd Stadium lets veterans, active military and their family members walk across Jones Field as the Band of Blue performs official fight songs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

A Marines’ Toys for Tots drive will be held at stadium gates. For more information, call 615-898-5322.

At 11:11 a.m. Nov. 11,  the City of LaVergne will come to a standstill as Police Chief Mike Walker plays “Taps” in honor of Veterans Day.

 The city is holding a Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony in front of City Hall that will include a moment of silence and introduction of veterans in attendance.
