Vera Belle Swarts­-Lakey



God has called another angel home. Vera Belle Swarts­-Lakey passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on Wednesday, August 6, 2014.

She is survived by her devoted long-time companion, Jim Wilson, daughter Penny & husband Daniel Foreman, grandchildren Tommy & husband Jason Gantz and Phillip & wife Jessie Burton, great-grandson, Connor Davis, step-daughter Brit Murray and step-granddaughter Jaqueline Murray, brothers Clarence Jr. and wife Carrie Swarts, and Jimmie and wife Francis Swarts. In addition, she leaves behind numerous caring friends and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents Clarence Sr. and Ruby Vesta Swarts, sister Ruby Mae, as well as grandparents Alvin and Vera Belle Hyde and James and Laura Bell Ward.

Vera brought joy to the world around her through music and was active in the Nashville music scene. As a singer/songwriter, Vera was able to reach fetes that many of us can only dream of in a career that included a performance at the venerated Carnegie Hall and even a Billboard top 55 hit. She had the pleasure of playing with many of the biggest country music acts in the business. Vera left a starry trail of happiness and smiles where ever she went. Vera was a true servant of God in the Baptist faith and one of the brightest shining stars to grace this earth. Vera and her beautiful laughter will be profoundly missed.

Visitation was held from 12noon until 2:00pm Saturday, August 9, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00pm at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. 615-459-3254. www.woodfinchapel.com
