Plans are underway for the 2009 International Folkfest celebration which will be held June 14-21.

Throughout the week, international groups will perform for area schools, youth and senior citizen organizations and for civic clubs. Groups from the United States, Germany and Belgium are among the 2009 confirmed participants.

Traditionally, the celebration concludes with final performances from each group, during which area vendors and international connoisseurs are invited to display and sell arts and crafts and other international-type fares. Restaurants and food vendors are also invited to showcase international dishes and cuisines. The festival is built on both visual and performing arts.

A Parade of Nations will take place periodically throughout the day in the designated areas where the food, arts and crafts booths are set up.

The International Folkloric Society is offering an early bird registration fee of $50 to vendors who register before March 15. The regular fee is $75, for those who register after March 15.

A percentage of proceeds from booth rentals will benefit the International Folkloric Society. The fee includes an indoor 10x10 booth space at Stones River Mall on June 20 from noon until 5 p.m.  For festival information or to download a vendor or sponsor application visit wwww.mboro-international-folkfest.org.

International Folkloric Society (IFS), a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and preserve international cultural heritage with a primary focus on the arts, coordinates the festival each year.
