The Board of Directors of Providence Christian Academy, 410 DeJarnette Ln., announced William H. “Butch” Vaughn will become the school’s Headmaster on Monday, Sept. 29.
Vaughn is a life long resident of Rutherford County and brings with him a wealth of experience in education.
“I would like to thank the Providence Christian Academy Board of Directors for the opportunity to serve the students, teachers, parents and staff as Headmaster,” Vaughn said. “I have been blessed in my years in public education and have worked with many talented and dedicated individuals, but it has been the desire of my heart to work in a Christian environment where the Bible is taught, prayer is a constant way of life, and you can talk about and praise God and it is OK. There is a big difference between gaining knowledge and gaining wisdom. Providence Christian Academy provides both to their students.”
Vaughn surprised the county earlier this week by resigning his two-year post as the principal of Oakland High School, saying he wanted to pursue other options. While at Oakland, he was instrumental in the development of the International Baccalaureate program, the Masonry program and raising the graduation rate.
Vaughn previously served in the capacity of classroom teacher and football coach at Thurman Francis Junior High and Central High School. Working his way into administration, he was the principal at Central Middle School and was the first principal at Blackman Middle School.
Providence Christian Academy is a classical Christian school serving Pre-K through the 11th grades with expansion to include the 12th grade in the next school year. The school is a non-denominational school. Enrollment is open to any student who meets the academic criteria regardless of race, nationality or religious background.
