Vandals spray-painted racial and vulgar slurs on the Homer Pittard Campus School sign, electrical boxes and other areas overnight Sunday, the MTSU Police chief said.

The yellow spray paint depicted the “F” word, “a vulgar description of a sexual act” and a racial slur were combined on both sides of the sign, said MTSU Police Chief Buddy Peaster.

More curse words were spray painted on the electrical box along with “eat shrooms,” an apparent reference to hallucinogenic mushrooms, the chief said. A window was spray-painted.

“What we are finding out that in this area around Campus School, city police have taken reports of similar activity,” Peaster said.

A white van had van in yellow spray paint and a church had yellow spray paint on the sign.

“We’re not ruling out the fact there might have been a reference to someone or some groups at the school,” Peaster said. “It does seem to be consistent with other vandalism in that area. We think that probably this was an action that may not have been specifically meant for the Campus School.”

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the identity and prosecution of the suspect. People who have information are asked to call Crime Stoppers between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 893-STOP. People may also call MTSU Police at 898-2424.

“Because Campus School is such a visible icon, we felt it would be appropriate to offer a reward,” Peaster said.

their list of suspects can be counted on two hands- this is a clear racist intiminating attack on the black principal- next thing we will see outside the school is a burning cross- the police need to find this disgruntled adult quickly and with this reward hopefully he/she will be caught-as most criminals usually tell on themselves

police can interview anyone at the school and they can give you a list of possible suspects
