In an unrelated case, Deputy Michael Moody reported Afton Watson of Telescope Trace, who is five months pregnant, was threatened at knifepoint by an intoxicated man wanting to fight her husband.
Suspect Verlon Mark Pendergrast, 50, of County Farm Road sent text messages to Watson’s husband, James Victory, he wanted to fight because he accused their son of theft.
Watson asked Pendergrast to go home. “Pendergrast pulled out a pocket knife and waved it at her in a threatening manner,” Moody reported. “She backed away and he began to drag the blade of the knife against the asphalt.”
When Moody arrived, Pendergrast walked away.
Moody recovered the open knife about 15 feet away.
Moody charged Pendergrast with aggravated assault.
When they arrived at the jail, Pendergrast accused Moody of punching his head but the deputy reported no one assaulted Pendergrast.
His hearing is set March 8 in General Sessions Court.
