A resident caught a man attempting to break into his home about 3 a.m. Tuesday off East Main Street, Murfreesboro Police reported.
Victim Henry Nelson of South Bilbro Avenue saw the burglar with a hammer and screwdriver banging on a window, Officer Marja Atchley reported. He fled before police arrived.
Nelson told Atchley someone kicked in the basement door between June 17-19, cutting the wiring to the central heat and air unit. Damage was set at more than $1,000.

In another case, sheriff’s Deputy Curtis Beane reported vandals cut the wires and removed the copper tubing from a heat and air unit in an Emery Road home now owned by Fannie Mae.
Damage was set at $8,000.

Burglars stole $4,200 worth of tools from Jimmie Thacker on Leanna-Central Valley Road, sheriff’s deputies reported Wednesday.
Items stolen included a battery charger, pressure washer, boat motor, power saws, weed trimmer, grinder, rods, drill, electric drill, ramps, fan, flood lights and extension cords.

Thieves stole an assault rifle, revolver and fox racing gun from Carri Vandivor of Lillard Road, deputies reported Wednesday.
The weapons were valued at $1,850.

Someone stole a Titan generator and two ladders from Mark IV Enterprises of Nashville while the property was stored at the Cason Trail Trailhead, Officer Michael Daingerfield reported Thursday.
Loss was set at $7,260 for the missing property and $1,000 to a steel door and frame protecting the generator.
