As part of an effort to highlight state leaders, the Council on Workforce Innovation is presenting a forum conversation with University of Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place Friday, July 11, from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Saint Thomas Health will host the forum at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital’s GSO Auditorium, located at 2000 Church St.
News Channel 5 anchor Vicki Yates will moderate the discussion, speaking with Jones about transformational leadership – a topic that has been front and center for the second-year coach, who looks to reinvigorate UT’s football program “brick by brick.” After their conversation, Jones will answer questions from the audience.
“Saint Thomas Health, like the University of Tennessee and its football team, owes much of its reputation and tradition to strong, dedicated leadership,” said Bernie Sherry, president and CEO of Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital and Saint Thomas West Hospital. “We are honored to host Coach Jones and proud to partner with the university through the UT Health Science Center (UTHSC).”
Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, formerly Baptist Hospital, has been a partner with the UTHSC since 1981, and the two organizations announced two years ago that they would expand their joint residency program. The partnership has trained 140 medical residents specializing in internal medicine to date, or approximately 15 a year. Leaders expect the expansion will allow 115 residents a year to train in varied specialties by 2017.
The Council on Workforce Innovation is a public/private collaboration to advance innovation in the workforce through a suite of solutions that include technology, collaborative initiatives and diversity and inclusion. Jacky Akbari is the founder and president of this collaboration.
“The ability to lead organizations through transition and change is an essential quality for the workforce of the future,” Akbari said. “Additionally, workforce trends reflect that maximizing results with diverse talents will be as critical to workplace success as it is to athletic success.”
