The United States Postal Service (USPS) will hold a food drive to benefit the Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank on Saturday, May 14.  Any nonperishable items placed in mailboxes will be picked up by a postal worker during their normal delivery hours.

The USPS asks that you place nonperishable items inside a bag in your mailbox to be collected.  On the day of the food drive, the main postal offices on Memorial Boulevard and Church Street in Murfreesboro will be collection sites for food items.  Members of local Boys Scout troops will provide assistance at each collection site.

Post offices in more than 10,000 cities across the United States have participated in this annual food drive for the past 18 years.  Nationally, the drive has donated over one billion pounds of food to local food banks and pantries.

The Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank, a United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties partner agency, relieves hunger in south Rutherford County by serving persons who are temporarily unable to provide for themselves.  The food bank is located at 211 Bridge Avenue in Murfreesboro.   They can be contacted at (615) 895-1148.
