Obesity especially childhood obesity is certainly a topic that most people nowadays feel uncomfortable talking about. Lately throughout the past few years’ childhood obesity has been thrown into the spotlight with the government and schools throughout United States trying to propose solutions. It is great to read that the childhood obesity rates are going down; however, I am sure that it is nowhere near as low as it should be.
Although some parents protest, I believe that this is a major part where our government should step in and take control of the nutrition of the food being served at schools, especially public schools. And that they are offering more nutritious plans for pregnant women. I would so often see people using food stamps at grocery stores and only getting unhealthy food. I think it should be regulated that healthier foods are required.
Also I think that it is good that these children are eating healthier at school but I believe most of it comes from their parents and how unhealthy they are eating. Of course your genes play a part but I believe obesity is from pure unwilling to do the things necessary to be fit and healthy. Kids in this day in age are playing video games, on the computer, and on their cell phones a lot more often then they are playing outside with others. And a major part of those people being obese is not watching their portion control and basically eating until they are sick. More should be done to help fight and ultimately eliminate obesity in the US.
