The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has turned up evidence that a resigned Blackman High School teacher had inappropriate contact with a student.

Warren Johnson, 33, of 3023 Hartford Dr., resigned his job teaching history with Rutherford County Schools Oct. 27 after RCSO started an investigation stemming from allegations of inappropriate or illegal behavior with female students.

RCSO Detective Sgt. Mickey McCullough executed a search warrant at Johnson’s parents home earlier this week to collect evidence in the investigation.

McCullough said one former student alleged she had a sexual relationship with Johnson, which started when she was 16 years old and ended when she was 17 years old.

“(She) stated that the sexual activity took place at Blackman High School in (Johnson’s) classroom and at his parent’s home,” McCullough wrote in his search warrant.

The victim was able to describe the parent’s home and certain items inside the home.

“Those items, as well as photographs of home, corroborate that she was there,” McCullough said. “How would she know if she wasn’t inside the house at some point?”

McCullough said there are multiple victims in the case but wouldn’t divulge exactly how many students with which Johnson had inappropriate relationships.

Johnson had been employed by Rutherford County Schools since 2001.

The school system declined comment at this time.

Press release from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office:

Charges are expected to be filed soon against a former Blackman High School teacher who resigned Oct. 27, a sheriff’s detective supervisor said Thursday.

After receiving information, the sheriff’s office opened an investigation Oct. 25 against teacher Warren Theodore Johnson III, 33, of 3023 Hartford Drive in Murfreesboro about alleged inappropriate and illegal sexual behavior, said lead investigator Detective Sgt. Mickey McCullough.

“Johnson’s arrest is imminent,” McCullough said.

He worked as a teacher at Blackman High School from 2001 until Oct. 27 when he resigned “within hours after my first conversation with him,” McCullough said.

“Multiple victims and witnesses have been interviewed and their statements collected,” McCullough said. “Multiple subpoenas and search warrants have been written, issued and executed. The evidence collected has been voluminous. Additional search warrants will be written and executed.

“Without any specifics, the evidence that has been recovered is in the form of electronic communications, hand-written and typed documents and poems, physical evidence, photographs and forensic evidence,” McCullough said.

The decision to when Johnson will be taken into custody by arrest warrants or by possible indictments from the Rutherford County Grand Jury has not been made at this time.

This has become endemic to the RC School System. It seems every year there is yet another case of teacher on student sexual abuse. It is a travesty that those in charge are still employed. The time to clean house is long overdue.
