Shanterrica Madden, 18, a freshman at MTSU and roommate of Tina Stewart, has been was arraigned Thursday morning in connection to the lethal stabbing of Lady Raider guard Tina Stewart.

According to the Daily News Journal, there was a physical altercation that led to the stabbing.

Madden is being held without bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in court again March 11.

“There was an argument,” Murfreesboro Police Spokesman Kyle Evans said. “During that argument, Madden stabbed the victim.”

Stewart, 21, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday resulting from injuries reportedly suffered from a stabbing at Raiders Crossing Apartments on Hazelwood Street.

Murfreesboro Police arrived at the apartments at 6:48 p.m. after an anonymous 911 call about a domestic disturbance.

The two women reportedly got into a fight when Madden pulled a knife and stabbed Stewart.

“The team is devastated, but we’ll work through this together,” Athletics Director Chris Massaro said.

Stewart is a Memphis native who started four games among the 26 in which she played for the Lady Raiders. She earned a starting role against Western Kentucky on Dec. 20. She started three other games later in the season against FIU Florida Atlantic and University of Louisana-Monroe.

She is the daughter of Ida and Adrian Jackson of Memphis and has three siblings, Adrian, Monika and Miesha.

Counselors will be provided to coaches, players and any other MTSU student who needs assistance in room 329 of the KUC or by phone at 615-898-2670.

“She was a wonderful, vibrant young woman and a gifted athlete,” MTSU President Sidney McPhee said. "This is a horrible, unspeakable tragedy."

A vigil will be held at the Murphy Center at 6 P.M. Thursday night, March 3.
