Updated: City Earth Day celebration to move

After eight years of good weather, the Earth Day Celebration will be moved to its rain date location in the adult gymnasium in Patterson Park Community Center from Civic Plaza this year.

The times will remain the same, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be free hot dogs, popcorn and drinks, brochures on earth-friendly conservation practices, door prizes and a record number of information booths.

Rutherford County Environmental Education Program, in partnership with MaxShred, a locally owned on-site document shredding company, will also offer a free local shred day from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the in the parking area of Rutherford County Courthouse.

Visitors can drive through the inner circle of the parking lot and volunteers will unload items to be shredded. The event is for households only and documents to be shredded are limited to two banker boxes.
