One passenger died and a driver suffered critical injuries in a three-vehicle crash Thursday in front of an office complex on Memorial Boulevard near State Farm Insurance, authorities said.

The driver of a Honda CRX was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center while his passenger was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, said Murfreesboro Police spokesman Kyle Evans.

Passenger Jaycey Drummond, 18, of Murfreesboro, died from injuries suffered in the crash, Evans reported.

Four people in a Nissan Armada who suffered minor injuries were taken to MTMC and the driver of another Honda was taken to the medical center for medical reasons, Evans said.

Evans said the driver of a maroon Honda car was attempting to turn left from 2690 Memorial Blvd. and the northbound CRX made contact with the car, causing the CRX to cross the center lane and strike a southbound black SUV.

Murfreesboro Fire Department firefighters and the Emergency Medical Services paramedics and its Special Operations Response Team extricated the patients trapped in the wreckage.

Drummond is the 19th traffic fatality this year in Rutherford County.

People drive WAY too fast on Memorial thru there, like it's a speedway, and like they HAVE to be first.

We live off of Memorial and drive it daily. I find it strange that in all the years Memorial has been a 5 lane I have yet to see any law personnel with a radar gun sitting anywhere. You can see them on Haynes Drive about once or twice a month with radar gun (3 cars plus motorcycles). They need to start focusing their energy on Memorial and maybe the fast drivers will slow down some. Late at night, from where I live, I can hear cars and motorcycles racing from redlight at Haynes/Dejarnette all the way to the Shell Station. If they would just set up radar they would be able to catch alot of speeders and hopefully make Memorial a safer highway.

Jaycey just graduated from Siegel in May. This is tragic. He will be greatly missed. Candlelight memorial will be behind Papa Murphy's on Memorial Sunday night at 9 PM. You are already so missed Jaycey!!!!

Turning off Osborne Lane either way onto Memorial is also a deathtrap. There have already been many accidents there. You take your life into your own hands every time you try it. We desperately need a stoplight there!

Diddlede, we sit on our deck and can hear the motorcycles racing up and down Memorial and Dejarnette just about every night too.
